I didn't read you blog because even if Subban is available at 26 th Gillis deserves a kick in the nuts if his first pick is a goalie.

Without scouring the twitterverse to see if this is already out...Darren Helm agrees to 4 year, $8.5 deal in Detroit.

I'd be ok with that, but it had better be a mid-level prospect like Rodin or Polasek. I think the value is pretty close with Schneids and the first.

+1. Maybe take a boom or bust goalie with a later pick, but Gillis better address more pressing needs with the 1st and 2nd rounders.

What about trading both Lu and Schneids knowing that Lack and Cannata aren't far behind? Sign a serviceable, veteran goalie and hope for the best this year.

As much as we mocked Lu last year and in years past,I have to put a lot of blame on the D in front of him.He did let in shots from center and many from behind the gaol line. I am hoping he is past that now and all he has to do is be good ,not great.
We need to build a good D in front of him.

Never draft by need always draft the best player available regardless of team need. Time after time this organization and many other ones make this mistake of drafting by need some years and it usually doesn't work out. By drafting the best player available at least you are increasing the organizations prospect pool which is the way to build teams now for success.

Bernier will be staying put in Los Angeles. It's a situation much like Vancouver had this past season with Schneider and Luongo.

I can't see Lonbardi dealing Bernier until he has Quick locked up long term.

As for Chicago being in on a goalie, cross them off the list. Bowman is going to roll his two "duds" in goal this season.

I am a firm believer in drafting BPA, but the Canucks prospects are EXTREMELY SHALLOW in ALL AREAS EXCEPT GOALTENDING. They need to draft the BPA who is not a goalie...

If one of Dansk, Subban, or the Russian kid who's name I can't spell are the BPA when it's the Canucks turn to pick, and Gillis picks one instead of whatever D or F is the BPA, he should be fired.

Good article. Don't understand the Patrick White reference though.

Ek's reporting that the canucks are interested in Jiri Hudler. Jiri's got skill but not the type of player we need IMO.

That Dale Weise has started 80% of his shifts in the defensive end, and finished nearly 50% of his shifts in the offensive end, is a testament to his ability to move the puck forward. Weise's presence on the ice this season has also had a cooler effect, as he's successfully sucked the offense out of the game at both ends of the ice. When you're a fourth line forward, playing difficult minutes, that's really valuable. Weise has the lowest goals/against per sixty rate of any Canucks regular this season, and when you consider the minutes he's played and his deployment - that's pretty impressive.
[Weise's] ability to move play forward and make the sort of good on-ice decisions that prevent goals against is very useful for a fourth line winger. It's not the sort of skill that fans often appreciate, but it is the sort of skill the Canucks' head-coach most certainly does.

Not a big fan of his but here are some stats Canucks Army posted.
